Here is my week ten installment of College Spotlight for 2014. This week I am looking at Mike Gerber of Creighton and Cody Peterson of UW-Milwaukee.
Gerber is a senior outfielder out of Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, IL. It is always nice when one of the players local to me does good and Gerber had a perfect day at the plate last Friday. He was 5 for 5 with a double, 4 RBI, 1 run and a walk while batting fourth and playing center field in a 12-6 victory at Villanova. For the season he is hitting .277/.331/.482 with 6 HR, 33 RBI, 19 R, 2 SB in 34 games. Last year in his junior season he hit .328/.385/.567 with 5 HR, 31 RBI, 20 R, 2 SB in 33 games.
Peterson is a junior RHP out of Burlington High School in Burlington, WI. Last Friday he pitched a one hit shut out as his Panthers won 3-0 over Valparaiso. His line for the game was 9.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K in 116 pitches. For the season he is 4-1, 4.36 ERA, 31 K, 1.29 WHIP, 1 SV in 43.1 IP over 10 games with 6 starts. Last season he pitched at JUCO Madison College where he was 5-4, 1.91 ERA, 52 K, 0.95 WHIP, 4 SV in 56.2 IP over 15 games with 8 starts.
