Here is my week eight installment of College Spotlight for 2014. This week I am looking at Demetre Taylor of Eastern Illinois and Chris Caudle of Central Arkansas.
Taylor is a sophomore outfielder out of Middleton High School in Tampa, FL. The game that caught my eye was a 10-9 victory his Panthers clawed out over 13 innings against Murray State Friday. That sort of game can either kill or raise the average and Taylor shined at the plate. He was 4 for 6 as he hit for the cycle with 1 RBI, 3 R, and a walk while playing left field. This season he is now hitting .354/.443/.655 with 5 HR, 31 RBI, 22 R, 3 SB in 29 games. In his freshman season last year he hit .264/.347/.331 with 2 HR, 24 RBI, 18 R, 0 SB in 44 games.
Caudle is a junior RHP out of Greenwood High School in Greenwood, AR. On Saturday he pitched a one hit shut out as his Bears won 3-0 over Southeastern Louisiana. His line for the game was 9.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K in 97 pitches. For the season he is now 5-2, 2.66 ERA, 25 K, 1.16 WHIP in 50.2 IP over 11 games with 6 starts. Last year he was pitching for JUCO Crowder College where he was 11-0, 1.88 ERA, 54 K, 1.03 WHIP in 71.2 IP over 17 games.
