Tanaka Express in America
Excuse me Mr Jones but I'm going to talk about Masahiro Tanaka of the New York Yankees. Three games into his MLB career and he obviously skipped the adjustment period and went straight to dominate mode. I had predicted that the Yankees would land the star who was 24-0 in his last season in Japan. The RHP had 8 K in his debut and has followed that up with two 10 K performances. That puts him at 2-0, 2.05 ERA, 28 K, 0.77 WHIP in 22.0 IP over 3 games. While his 11.45 K/9 rate is very impressive the fact he has allowed only two walks and is giving up only 6.14 hits/9 shows he has power and control. It's a long season but he currently projects to 324 K over 35 games. That might not be out of the question considering his teammate Carsten Charles Sabathia reached the 35 game mark in 2008 and 34 games in 2007, 2009 and 2010. Tanaka is only 25 and offers MLB fans the chance to see a special career in the making.
