Albert Pujols of the Los Angeles Angels reached the 500 home run milestone on April 22, 2014 in a 7-2 win over the Washington Nationals. For the game he was 2 for 4 with 2 HR, 5 RBI and 2 runs while hitting third and playing at first base. He hit his 499th home run off Taylor Jordan of the Nationals in the first inning with J.B Shuck and Mike Trout on base. The 500th home run was also off Jordan in the fifth inning as Trout was again on base.
Pujols became the 26th MLB player to reach the mark. This season he is hitting .274/.337/.619 with 8 HR, 19 RBI, 15 R, 1 SB in 20 games. For his MLB career with the Angels and St Louis Cardinals he has hit .321/.409/.599 with 500 HR, 1517 RBI, 1440 R, 94 SB in 1978 games. 445 of his home runs came with the Cardinals over 1705 games. He was originally drafted by the Cardinals in the 13th round in 1999. Pujols turned 34 on January 16. Only Alex Rodriguez and Jimmie Foxx were younger when they reached the 500 home run milestone.
