Joe Blanton retires

Joe Blanton announced his retirement from playing baseball in April 2014. The RHP had 10 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Athletics (2004-2008), Phillies (2008-2012), Dodgers (2012) and Angels (2013). In 2013 he was 2-14, 6.04 ERA, 108 K, 1.61 WHIP in 132.2 IP over 28 games with the Angels. For his MLB career he was 85-89, 4.23 ERA, 1086 K, 1.36 WHIP in 1567.1 IP over 265 games. He was originally drafted by the Athletics with the 24th pick of the first round in 2002. Blanton was 33 at the time of his retirement.
