Here is my week 11 installment of College Spotlight for 2014. This week I am looking at Tyler Gregory of James Madison and Zac Curtis of Middle Tennessee.
Gregory is a senior outfielder out of Houston Academy in Dothan, AL. Last Friday he had a big day at the plate in a losing 15-12 effort against Towson. He was 4 for 5 with 2 HR, 7 RBI and 2 runs whiel batting fifth and playing right field. For the season he is now hitting .282/.395/.513 with 6 HR, 32 RBI, 30 R, 1 SB in 41 games. Last season as a part-time starter he hit .265/.301/.485 with 2 HR, 13 RBI, 12 R, 0 SB in 30 games. Prior to joining the Dukes he played two seasons at Wallace Community College in his hometown.
LHP Curtis is a senior out of Hendersonville High School in Hendersonville, TN. On Friday he pitched a complete game shut out as his Blue Raiders edged Old Dominion 1-0. His line for the game was 9.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 11 K with 123 pitches. For the season he is 6-2, 2.08 ERA, 98 K, 1.04 WHIP in 82.1 IP over 11 games. Last season he was 5-4, 4.93 ERA, 74 K, 1.33 WHIP in 80.1 IP over 14 games. Curtis also spent a couple years in the JUCO ranks pitching at Volunteer State Comminity College.
