Walter P Johnson was inducted into the first MLB Hall of Fame class in 1936 along with Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner. RHP Johnson had 21 seasons MLB experience all with the Washington Senators (1907-1927). For his MLB career he was 417-279 with a 2.17 ERA, 3509 K, 1.06 WHIP, 34 SV in 5914.1 IP over 802 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1913 when he was 36-7 with a 1.14 ERA, 243 K, 0.78 WHIP, 2 SV, 29 complete games, 11 shut outs in 346.0 IP over 48 games, 1912 when he was 33-12 with a 1.39 ERA, 303 K, 0.91 WHIP, 2 SV, 34 complete games, 7 shut outs in 369.0 IP over 50 games and 1915 when he was 27-13 with a 1.55 ERA, 203 K, 0.93 WHIP, 4 SV, 35 complete games, 7 shut outs in 336.2 IP over 47 games.
He twice won the American League MVP in 1913 and 1924 when he was 23-7 with a 2.72 ERA, 158 K, 1.12 WHIP, 20 complete games, 6 shut outs in 277.2 IP over 38 games. He pitched a no hitter on July, 1, 1920 against the Boston Red Sox.
Johnson led the American League in wins in 1913, 1914 (28), 1915, 1916 (25), 1918 (23) and 1924. He led the AL in ERA in 1912, 1913, 1918 (1.27), 1919 (1.49) and 1924. He led the AL in strike outs 12 times: 1910 (313), 1912, 1913, 1914 (225), 1915, 1916 (228), 1917 (188), 1918 (162), 1919 (147), 1921 (143), 1923 (130) and 1924. He led the AL in shut outs in 1911 (6), 1913, 1914 (9), 1915 (7), 1918 (8), 1919 (7) and 1924.
Johnson won the World Series Championship with the Senators in 1924. His 110 career shut outs are the most in MLB history. He is second in career wins. Johnson was also manager of the Senators from 1929-1932 then managed the Cleveland Indians 1933-1935.
