Tristram E (Tris) Speaker was inducted into the second MLB Hall of Fame class in 1937 along with Morgan Bulkeley, Ban Johnson, Nap Lajoie, Connie Mack, John McGraw, George Wright and Cy Young. Speaker was an outfielder with 22 seasons MLB experience playing with the Boston Americans (1907), Boston Red Sox (1908-1915), Cleveland Indians (1916-1926), Washington Senators (1927) and Philadelphia Athletics (1928). For his MLB career he hit .345/.428/.500 with 117 HR, 1529 RBI, 1882 R, 436 SB in 2789 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1923 when he hit .380/.469/.610 with 17 HR, 130 RBI, 133 R, 8 SB in 150 games, 1920 when he hit .388/.483/.562 with 8 HR, 107 RBI, 137 R, 10 SB in 150 games and 1912 when he hit .383/.464/.567 with 10 HR, 90 RBI, 136 R, 52 SB in 153 games.
Speaker was the American League batting champ in 1916 (.386). He led the AL in doubles in 1912 (53), 1914 (46), 1916 (41), 1918 (33), 1920 (50), 1921 (52), 1922 (48) and 1923 (59). He led the AL in home runs in 1912.
Speaker was the American League MVP in 1912. His 3515 career hits ranks fifth all time. Speaker won the World Series Championship with the Red Sox in 1912 and 1915 and with the Indians in 1920. He was also the Indians manager (1919-1926) with a 617-520 record.
