George E (Rube) Waddell was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1946 along with Jesse Burkett, Frank Chance, Jack Chesbro, John Evers, Clark Griffith, Thomas McCarthy, Joseph McGinnity, Edward Plank, Joseph Tinker, and Edward Walsh. Waddell was a LHP with 13 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Louisville Colonels (1897, 1899), Pittsburgh Pirates (1900-1901), Chicago Orphans (1901), Philadelphia Athletics (1902-1907) and St Louis Browns (1908-1910). For his MLB career he was 193-143 with a 2.16 ERA, 2316 K, 1.10 WHIP, 5 SV, 261 complete games, 50 shut outs in 2961.1 IP over 407 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1905 when he was 27-10 with a 1.48 ERA, 287 K, 0.98 WHIP, 27 complete games, 7 shut outs in 328.2 IP over 46 games, 1902 when he was 24-7 with a 2.05 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 26 complete games, 3 shut outs in 276.1 IP over 33 games and 1903 when he was 21-16 with a 2.44 ERA, 302 K, 1.11 WHIP, 34 complete games, 4 shut outs in 324.0 IP over 39 games.
Waddell led the American League in wins in 1905. He led the National League in ERA in 1900 (2.37). He led the AL in ERA in 1905. He led the AL in strikeouts six consecutive seasons: 1902 (210), 1903 (302), 1904 (349), 1905 (287), 1906 (196) and 1907 (232).
He won the pitching triple crown in 1905.
