Rogers Hornsby was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame as the only member of the 1942 class. Hornsby was a 2B\SS\3B with 23 seasons MLB experience playing with the St Louis Cardinals (1915-1926, 1933), New York Giants (1927), Boston Braves (1928), Chicago Cubs (1929-1932) and St Louis Browns (1933-1937). For his MLB career he hit .358/.434/.577 with 301 HR, 1584 RBI, 1579 R, 135 SB in 2259 games.
I believe his best three seasons where 1922 when he hit .401/.459/.722 with 42 HR, 152 RBI, 141 R, 17 SB in 154 games, 1929 when he hit .380/.459/.679 with 39 HR, 149 RBI, 156 R, 2 SB in 156 games and 1925 when he hit .403/.489/.756 with 39 HR, 143 RBI, 133 R, 5 SB in 138 games.
Hornsby was the National League batting champ seven times: 1920 (.370), 1921 (.397), 1922 (.401), 1923 (.384), 1924 (.424), 1925 (.403), 1928 (.387). He led the NL in Doubles in 1920 (44), 1921 (44), 1922 (46) and 1924 (43). He led the NL in triples in 1917 (17) and 1921 (18). He led the NL in home runs in 1922 and 1925. He led the NL in RBI in 1920 (94), 1921 (126), 1922 and 1925. He led the NL in runs in 1921 (131), 1922, 1924 (121), 1927 (133) and 1929.
He was twice the National League MVP in 1925 and 1929 and finished second in NL MVP voting in 1924. He won the triple crown in 1922 and 1925. His career batting average is second all time. He won the World Series Championship with the Cardinals in 1926.
Hornsby also had an extensive managerial career. He managed the St Louis Cardinals (1925-1926) with a 153-102 record and the 1926 World Series victory. He managed the New York Giants (1927) with a 22-10 record. His record with the Boston Braves (1928) was 39-83. He managed the Chicago Cubs (1930-1932) with a 141-116 record. While with the St Louis Browns (1933-1937, 1952) he was 255-381. He managed the Cincinnati Reds (1952-1953) with a 91-106 record. His career record was 701-812.
