Charles G (Old Hoss) Radbourn was inducted into the fourth MLB Hall of Fame class in 1939 along with Cap Anson, Edward Collins, Charles Comiskey, Candy Cummings, Buck Ewing, Lou Gehrig, Wee Willie Keeler, George Sisler and Albert Spalding. Radbourn was a RHP\OF with 12 seasons MLB experience playing with the Buffalo Bisons (1880), Providence Grays (1881-1885), Boston Beaneaters (1886-1889), Boston Reds (1890) and Cincinnati Reds (1891). For his MLB career he hit .235/.283/.281 with 9 HR, 259 RBI, 308 R, 26 SB in 653 games. For his MLB career as a pitcher he was 309-194 with a 2.68 ERA, 1830 K, 1.15 WHIP, 3 SV, 488 complete games, 35 shut outs in 4527.1 IP over 527 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1884 when he was 59-12 with a 1.38 ERA, 441 K, 0.92 WHIP, 2 SV, 73 complete games, 11 shut outs in 678.2 IP over 75 games, 1883 when he was 48-25 with a 2.05 ERA, 315 K, 0.98 WHIP, 1 SV, 66 complete games, 4 shut outs in 632.1 IP over 76 games and 1882 when he was 2.11 ERA, 201 K, 1.01 WHIP, 50 complete games, 6 shut outs in 466.0 IP over 54 games.
Radbourn led the National League in wins in 1883 and 1884. He led the NL in ERA in 1884. He led the NL in strikeouts in 1882 and 1884. He led the NL in shut outs in 1882. He led the NL in saves in 1884. His 59 wins in 1884 is the MLB single season record.
