Napoleon (Nap) Lajoie was inducted into the second MLB Hall of Fame class in 1937 along with Morgan Bulkeley, Ban Johnson, Connie Mack, John McGraw, Tris Speaker, George Wright and Cy Young. Lajoie was a 2B\1B with 21 seasons MLB experience playing with the Philadelphia Phillies (1896-1900), Philadelphia Athletics (1901, 1915-1916), Cleveland Broncos (1902) and Cleveland Naps (1903-1914). The Broncos\Naps were part of the modern Cleveland Indians franchise. For his MLB career Lajoie hit .338/.380/.466 with 82 HR, 1599 RBI, 1504 R, 380 SB in 2480 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1901 when he hit .426/.463/.643 with 14 HR, 125 RBI, 145 R, 27 SB in 131 games, 1898 when he hit .324/.354/.461 with 6 HR, 127 RBI, 113 R, 25 SB in 147 games and 1904 when he hit .376/.413/.546 with 5 HR, 102 RBI, 92 R, 29 SB in 140 games.
He won five American League batting titles: 1901 (.426), 1902 (.378), 1903 (.344), 1904 (.376) and 1910 (.384). He led the NL in doubles in 1898 (43). He led the AL in doubles in 1901 (48), 1904 (49), 1906 (48) and 1910 (51). He led the AL in home runs in 1901. He led the NL in RBI in 1898. He led the AL in RBI in 1901 and 1904. He led the AL in runs in 1901.
He won the AL Triple Crown in 1901. His 3242 career hits ranks 13th all time. Lajoie also pulled double duty as the Cleveland Naps manager (1905-1909) with a 397-330 record.
