Mordecai Brown was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1949 along with Charles Gehringer and Kid Nichols. Brown was a RHP with 14 seasons MLB experience pitching with the St Louis Cardinals (1903), Chicago Cubs (1904-1912, 1916), Cincinnati Reds (1913), St Louis Terriers (1914), Brooklyn Tip-Tops (1914) and Chicago Whales (1915). For his MLB career he was 239-130 with a 2.06 ERA, 1375 K, 1.07 WHIP, 49 SV, 271 complete games, 55 shut outs in 3172.1 IP over 481 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1906 when he was 26-6 with a 1.04 ERA, 144 K, 0.93 WHIP, 3 SV, 27 complete games, 9 shut outs in 277.1 IP over 36 games, 1909 when he was 27-9 with a 1.31 ERA, 172 K, 0.87 WHIP, 7 SV, 32 complete games, 8 shut outs in 342.2 IP over 50 games and 1908 when he was 29-9 with a 1.47 ERA, 123 K, 0.84 WHIP, 5 SV, 27 complete games, 9 shut outs in 312.1 IP over 44 games.
Brown led the National League in wins in 1909. He led the NL in ERA in 1906. He led the NL in shut outs in 1906 and 1910 (6). He led the NL in saves in 1908, 1909, 1910 (7) and 1911 (13).
Brown won the World Series Championship with the Cubs in 1907 and 1908.
He also served as manager with the Terriers in 1914 with a 50-63 record.
