Charles A (Kid) Nichols was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1949 along with Mordecai Brown and Charles Gehringer. Nichols was a RHP with 15 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Boston Beaneaters (1890-1901), St Louis Cardinals (1904-1905) and Philadelphia Phillies (1905-1906). For his MLB career he was 361-208 with a 2.96 ERA, 1881 K, 1.22 WHIP, 17 SV, 532 complete games, 48 shut outs in 5067.1 IP over 621 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1898 when he was 31-12 with a 2.13 ERA, 138 K, 1.03 WHIP, 4 SV, 40 complete games, 5 shut outs in 388.0 IP over 50 games, 1897 when he was 31-11 with a 2.64 ERA, 127 K, 1.17 WHIP, 3 SV, 37 complete games, 2 shut outs in 368.0 IP over 46 games and 1896 when he was 30-14 with a 2.83 ERA, 102 K, 1.31 WHIP, 1 SV, 37 complete games, 3 shut outs in 372.1 IP over 49 games.
Nichols led the National League in wins in 1896, 1897 and 1898. He led the NL in shut outs in 1890 (7), 1894 (3) and 1900 (4). He led the NL in saves in 1891 (3), 1895 (3), 1897 and 1898.
He has the 7th most wins in MLB history. He had eleven 20 win seasons of which seven were 30 win seasons.
He also served as the St Louis Cardinals manager (1904-1905) with a 80-88 record.
