Kenesaw M Landis was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame as the only member of the 1944 class. Landis was the first Commissioner of Major League Baseball. He served from 1920-1944. Landis was a Federal Judge from 1905-1922. His first major task as Commissioner was dealing with the aftermath of the Black Sox scandal. Although the eight players of the Chicago White Sox had been acquitted of conspiring to fix the 1919 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds Landis banned all eight from baseball. Landis was also instrumental in providing direction for teams establishing minor league farm systems. Prior to that the minor leagues had been independent from the Major Leagues.
