John J McGraw was inducted into the second MLB Hall of Fame class in 1937 along with Morgan Bulkeley, Ban Johnson, Nap Lajoie, Connie Mack, Tris Speaker, George Wright and Cy Young. McGraw had a 16 season career as a 3B\SS\OF playing with the Baltimore Orioles (1891-1899, 1901-1902), St Louis Cardinals (1900) and New York Giants (1902-1906). For his career he hit .334/.466/.410 with 13 HR, 462 RBI, 1024 R, 436 SB in 1099 games. His on base percentage remains third all time behind only Ted Williams (.482) and Babe Ruth (.474).
However it was his managerial career that warranted his inclusion to the MLB Hall of Fame. He got his start with the Orioles as player\manager in 1899 and then again 1901-1902 where his record was 180-158. In July 1902 he was suspended by American League president Ban Johnson which prompted him to jump back to the National League and he landed with the Giants. McGraw remained the Giants manager for 31 seasons and had a 2583-1790 record. He led the Giants to three World Series championships in 1905, 1921 and 1922.
