Joseph J McGinnity was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1946 along with Jesse Burkett, Frank Chance, Jack Chesbro, John Evers, Clark Griffith, Thomas McCarthy, Edward Plank, Joseph Tinker, Rube Waddell, and Edward Walsh. McGinnity was a RHP with 10 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Baltimore Orioles (1899, 1901-1902), Brooklyn Superbas (1900) and New York Giants (1902-1908). For his MLB career he was 246-142 with a 2.66 ERA, 1068 K, 1.19 WHIP, 24 SV, 314 complete games, 32 shut outs in 3441.1 IP over 465 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1904 when he was 35-8 with a 1.61 ERA, 144 K, 0.96 WHIP, 5 SV, 37 complete games, 9 shut outs in 408.0 IP over 51 games, 1903 when he was 31-20 with a 2.43 ERA, 171 K, 1.15 WHIP, 2 SV, 44 complete games, 3 shut outs in 434.0 IP over 55 games and 1906 when he was 27-12 with a 2.25 ERA, 105 K, 1.14 WHIP, 2 SV, 32 complete games, 3 shut outs in 339.2 IP over 45 games.
McGinnity led the National League in wins in 1899 (28), 1900 (28), 1903, 1904 and 1906. He led the NL in ERA in 1904. He led the NL in shut outs in 1904. He led the NL in saves in 1904, 1907 (4) and 1908 (5).
His 44 complete games and 434.0 IP in 1903 are still National League records. He won the World Series Championship with the Giants in 1905.
