Joseph P DiMaggio was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1955 along with Home Run Baker, Gabby Harnett, Theodore Lyons, Raymond Schalk and Dazzy Vance. DiMaggio was an outfielder with 13 seasons MLB experience playing all with the New York Yankees (1936-1942, 1946-1951). He did not play 1943-1945 when he served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. For his MLB career he hit .325/.398/.579 with 361 HR, 1537 RBI, 1390 R, 30 SB in 1736 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1937 when he hit .346/.412/.673 with 46 HR, 167 RBI, 151 R, 3 SB in 151 games, 1938 when he hit .324/.386/.581 with 32 HR, 140 RBI, 129 R, 6 SB in 145 games and 1948 when he hit .320/.396/.598 with 39 HR, 155 RBI, 110 R, 1 SB in 153 games.
He won the American League MVP three times in 1939 when he hit .381/.448/.671 with 30 HR, 126 RBI, 108 R, 3 SB in 120 games, 1941 when he hit .357/.440/.643 with 30 HR, 125 RBI, 122 R, 4 SB in 139 games and 1947 when he hit .315/.391/.522 with 20 HR, 97 RBI, 97 R, 3 SB in 141 games. He finished second in AL MVP voting in 1937 and 1948.
DiMaggio led the American League in batting in 1939 and 1940 (.352). He led the AL in triples in 1936 (15). He led the AL in home runs in 1937 and 1948. He led the AL in RBI in 1941. He led the AL in runs in 1937.
He was selected to the All Star team all 13 years he played (1936-1942, 1946-1951). He has the MLB record 56 game hitting streak set in 1941. DiMaggio won the World Series Championship nine times with the Yankees in 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1947, 1949, 1950 and 1951.
