John D (Jack) Chesbro was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1946 along with Jesse Burkett, Frank Chance, John Evers, Clark Griffith, Thomas McCarthy, Joseph McGinnity, Edward Plank, Joseph Tinker, Rube Waddell, and Edward Walsh. Chesbro was a RHP with 11 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1899-1902), New York Highlanders (1903-1909) and Boston Red Sox (1909). For his MLB career he was 198-132 with a 2.68 ERA, 1265 K, 1.15 WHIP, 5 SV, 260 complete games, 35 shut outs in 2896.2 IP over 392 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1904 when he was 41-12 with a 1.82 ERA, 239 K, 0.94 WHIP, 48 complete games, 6 shut outs in 454.2 IP over 55 games, 1902 when he was 28-6 with a 2.17 ERA, 136 K, 1.06 WHIP, 1 SV, 31 complete games, 8 shut outs in 286.1 IP over 35 games and 1901 when he was 21-10 with a 2.38 ERA, 129 K, 1.09 WHIP, 1 SV, 26 complete games, 6 shut outs in 287.2 games over 36 games.
Chesbro led the National League in wins in 1902. He led the American League in wins in 1904. He led the NL in shut outs in 1901 and 1902.
His 41 victories in 1904 still stands as the American League record.
