Hugh Duffy was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1945 along with Roger Bresnahan, Dan Brouthers, Fred Clarke, James Collins, Edward Delahanty, Hugh Jennings, King Kelly, James O'Rourke and Wilbert Robinson. Duffy was an outfielder with 17 seasons MLB experience playing with the Chicago White Stockings (1888-1889), Chicago Pirates (1890), Boston Reds (1891), Boston Beaneaters (1892-1900), Milwaukee Brewers (1901) and Philadelphia Phillies (1904-1906). For his MLB career he hit .326/.386/.451 with 106 HR, 1302 RBI, 1554 R, 574 SB in 1737 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1894 when he hit .440/.502/.694 with 18 HR, 145 RBI, 160 R, 48 SB in 125 games, 1897 when he hit .340/.403/.482 with 11 HR, 129 RBI, 130 R, 41 SB in 134 games and 1893 when he hit .363/.416/.461 with 6 HR, 118 RBI, 147 R, 44 SB in 131 games.
Duffy led the National League in batting in 1893 and 1894. He led the NL in doubles in 1894 (51). He led the NL in home runs in 1894 and 1897. He led the American Association in RBI in 1891 (110). He led the Players League in runs in 1890 (161).
He earned the triple crown in 1894.
Duffy also had double duty as manager with the Brewers (1901) with a 48-89-2 record and Phillies (1904-1906) with a 206-251 record. Later solely as manager with the White Sox (1910-1911) with a 145-159 record and Red Sox (1921-1922) with a 136-172 record.
