Edward S Plank was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1946 along with Jesse Burkett, Frank Chance, Jack Chesbro, John Evers, Clark Griffith, Thomas McCarthy, Joseph McGinnity, Joseph Tinker, Rube Waddell, and Edward Walsh. Plank was a LHP with 17 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Philadelphia Athletics (1901-1914), St Louis Terriers (1915-1916) and St Louis Browns (1917). For his MLB career he was 326-194 with a 2.35 ERA, 2246 K, 1.12 WHIP, 23 K, 410 complete games, 69 shut outs in 4495.2 IP over 623 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1912 when he was 26-6 with a 2.22 ERA, 110 K, 1.22 WHIP, 2 SV, 23 complete games, 5 shut outs in 259.2 IP over 37 games, 1911 when he was 23-8 with a 2.10 ERA, 149 K, 1.22 WHIP, 4 SV, 24 complete games, 6 shut outs in 256.2 IP over 40 games and 1905 when he was 24-12 with a 2.26 ERA, 210 K, 1.04 WHIP, 35 complete games, 4 shut outs in 346.2 IP over 41 games.
Plank led the American League in shut outs in 1907 (8) and 1911. He led the AL in saves in 1911.
His 69 shut outs are the most by a LHP in MLB history. He had eight 20 win seasons. Plank won two World Series Championships with the Athletics in 1911 and 1913.
