Edward A Walsh was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1946 along with Jesse Burkett, Frank Chance, Jack Chesbro, John Evers, Clark Griffith, Thomas McCarthy, Joseph McGinnity, Edward Plank, Joseph Tinker, and Rube Waddell. Walsh was a RHP with 14 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Chicago White Sox (1904-1916) and Boston Braves (1917). For his MLB career he was 195-126 with a 1.82 ERA, 1736 K, 1.00 WHIP, 35 SV, 250 complete games, 57 shut outs in 2964.1 IP over 430 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1908 when he was 40-15 with a 1.42 ERA, 269 K, 0.86 WHIP, 6 SV, 42 complete games, 11 shut outs in 464.0 IP over 66 games, 1911 when he was 27-18 with a 2.22 ERA, 255 K, 1.08 WHIP, 4 SV, 33 complete games, 5 shut outs in 368.2 IP over 56 games and 1912 when he was 27-17 with a 2.15 ERA, 254 K, 1.08 WHIP, 10 SV, 32 complete games, 6 shut outs in 393.0 IP over 62 games.
Walsh led the American League in wins in 1908. He led the AL in ERA in 1907 (1.60) and 1910 (1.27). He led the AL in strikeouts in 1908 and 1911. He led the AL in shut outs in 1906 (10), 1908 and 1909 (8). He led the AL in saves in 1907 (4), 1908, 1910 (5), 1911 and 1912.
He pitched a no hitter on August 27, 1911 against the Boston Red Sox. He finished second in AL MVP voting in 1911 and 1912. His 1.82 is the best career ERA in MLB history. Walsh won the World Series Championship with the White Sox in 1906.
He managed the White Sox for a few games in 1924 with a 1-2 record.
