Edward J Delahanty was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1945 along with Roger Bresnahan, Dan Brouthers, Fred Clarke, James Collins, Hugh Duffy, Hugh Jennings, King Kelly, James O'Rourke and Wilbert Robinson. Delahanty was an OF\1B\2B with 16 seasons MLB experience playing with the Philadelphia Quakers (1888-1889), Cleveland Infants (1890), Philadelphia Phillies (1891-1901) and Washington Senators (1902-1903). For his MLB career he hit .346/.411/.505 with 101 HR, 1466 RBI, 1600 R, 455 SB in 1837 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1893 when he hit .368/.423/.583 with 19 HR, 146 RBI, 145 R, 37 SB in 132 games, 1894 when he hit .404/.475/.584 with 4 HR, 133 RBI, 148 R, 21 SB in 116 games and 1899 when he hit .410/.464/.582 with 9 HR, 137 RBI, 135 R, 30 SB in 146 games.
Delahanty led the National League in batting average in 1899 (.410). He led the American League in batting average in 1902 (.376). He led the NL in doubles in 1895 (49), 1896 (44), 1899 (55) and 1901 (38). He led the AL in doubles in 1902 (43). He led the NL in triples in 1892 (21). He led the NL in home runs in 1893 and 1896 (13). He led the NL in RBI in 1893, 1896 (126) and 1899.
His career batting average is fifth all-time.
