Jay H (Dizzy) Dean was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1953 along with Edward Barrow, Chief Bender, Thomas Connolly, William Klem, Al Simmons, Bobby Wallace and Harry Wright. Dean was a RHP with 12 seasons MLB experience pitching with the St Louis Cardinals (1930, 1932-1937), Chicago Cubs (1938-1941) and St Louis Browns (1947). For his MLB career he was 150-83 with a 3.02 ERA, 1163 K, 1.21 WHIP, 30 SV, 154 complete games, 26 shut outs in 1967.1 IP over 317 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1934 when he was 30-7 with a 2.66 ERA, 195 K, 1.16 WHIP, 7 SV, 24 complete games, 7 shut outs in 311.2 IP over 50 games, 1935 when he was 28-12 with a 3.04 ERA, 190 K, 1.23 WHIP, 5 SV, 29 complete games, 3 shut outs in 325.1 IP over 50 games and 1936 when he was 24-13 with a 3.17 ERA, 195 K, 1.15 WHIP, 11 SV, 28 complete games, 2 shut outs in 315.0 IP over 51 games.
Dean led the National League in wins in 1934 and 1935. He led the NL in strikeouts 1932 (191), 1933 (199), 1934 and 1935. He led the NL in shut outs in 1932 (4) and 1934. He led the NL in saves in 1936.
He was an All Star four times (1934-1937). Dean was the National League MVP in 1934. He was second in NL MVP voting in 1935 and 1936. Dean won the World Series Championship with the Cardinals in 1934.
