Dennis (Dan) Brouthers was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1945 along with Roger Bresnahan, Fred Clarke, James Collins, Edward Delahanty, Hugh Duffy, Hugh Jennings, King Kelly, James O'Rourke and Wilbert Robinson. Brouthers was a first baseman with 19 seasons MLB experience playing with the Troy Trojans (1879-1880), Buffalo Bisons (1881-1885), Detroit Wolverines (1886-1888), Boston Beaneaters (1889), Boston Reds (1890-1891), Brooklyn Grooms (1892-1893), Baltimore Orioles (1894-1895), Louisville Colonels (1895), Philadelphia Phillies (1896) and New York Giants (1904). For his MLB career he hit .342/.423/.519 with 106 HR, 1296 RBI, 1523 R, 256 SB in 1673 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1894 when he hit .347/.425/.560 with 9 HR, 128 RBI, 137 R, 38 SB in 123 games, 1892 when he hit .335/.432/.480 with 5 HR, 124 RBI, 121 R, 31 SB in 152 games and 1887 when he hit .338/.426/.562 with 12 HR, 101 RBI, 153 R, 34 SB in 123 games.
Brouthers led the National League in hitting four times times: 1882 (.368), 1883 (.374), 1889 (.373), and 1892 (.335). He led the American Association in hitting in 1891 (.350) He led the NL in doubles in 1886 (40), 1887 (36), 1888 (33). He led the NL in triples in 1883 (17). He led the NL in home runs in 1881 (8) and 1886 (11). He led the NL in RBI in 1883 (97) and 1892. He led the NL in runs in 1887 and 1888 (118).
