William J Klem was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1953 along with Edward Barrow, Chief Bender, Thomas Connolly, Dizzy Dean, Al Simmons, Bobby Wallace and Harry Wright. Klem and Connolly were the first umpires to enter the Hall of Fame. He was a National League umpire 1905-1941. He worked a record 18 World Series. Klem is referred to as the "father of baseball umpires" and was one of the first to wear the modern chest protector inside his shirt.
