Babe Ruth MLB Hall of Fame 1936

George H (Babe) Ruth was inducted was inducted into the first MLB Hall of Fame class in 1936 along with Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson and Honus Wagner. Ruth was a LHP\OF with 22 seasons MLB experience playing with the Boston Red Sox (1914-1919), New York Yankees (1920-1934) and the Boston Braves (1935). Ruth did most of his pitching with the Red Sox but did pitch five with the Yankees. As a pitcher for his MLB career he was 94-46 with a 2.28 ERA, 488 K, 1.16 WHIP, 4 SV, 107 complete games, 17 shut outs in 1221.1 IP over 163 games.

I believe his three best seasons as a pitcher were 1916 when he was 23-12 with a 1.75 ERA, 170 K, 1.07 WHIP, 1 SV, 23 complete games, 9 shut outs in 323.2 IP over 44 games, 1917 when he was 24-13 with a 2.01 ERA, 128 K, 1.08 WHIP, 2 SV, 35 complete games, 6 shut outs in 326.1 IP over 41 games and 1915 when he was 18-8 with a 2.44 ERA, 112 K, 1.15 WHIP, 16 complete games, 1 shut out in 217.2 IP over 32 games. 

He led the American League in ERA and shut outs in 1916.

As a hitter for his MLB career he hit .342/.474/.690 with 714 HR, 2213 RBI, 2174 R, 123 SB in 2503 games. 

I believe his 3 best seasons as a hitter were 1921 when he hit .378/.512/.846 with 59 HR, 171 RBI, 177 R, 17 SB in 152 games, 1920 when he hit .376/.532/847 with 54 HR, 137 RBI, 158 R, 14 SB in 142 games and 1927 when he hit .356/.486/.772 with 60 HR, 164 RBI, 158 R, 7 SB in 151 games. 

Ruth was the American League MVP in 1923 when he hit .393/.545/.764 with 41 HR, 131 RBI, 151 R, 17 SB in 152 games.

Ruth led the American League in home runs 12 times: 1918 (11), 1919 (29), 1920 (54), 1921 (59), 1923 (41), 1924 (46), 1926 (47), 1927 (60), 1928 (54), 1929 (46), 1930 (49) and 1931 (46). He was the AL batting champ in 1924 (.378). He led the AL in RBI in 1919 (114), 1920, 1921, 1923, 1926 (146) and 1928 (142). He led the AL in runs in 1919 (103), 1920, 1921, 1923, 1924 (143), 1926 (139), 1927 and 1928 (163). 

He was an All-Star twice (1933-1934). The MLB All-Star game started in 1933. He was the American League batting champ in 1924 (.378). His career slugging percentage is still the MLB best. Ruth played on seven World Series Championship teams: three with the Red Sox (1915, 1916, 1918) and four with the Yankees (1923, 1927, 1928, 1932).
