Jose Alvarez was the Detroit Tigers Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2013. The LHP split 2013 between Triple A Toledo and the Tigers. He was 8-6, 2.80 ERA, 115 K, 1.08 WHIP, 1 SV in 128.2 IP over 21 games at Toledo and was 1-5, 5.82 ERA, 31 K, 1.50 WHIP in 38.2 IP over 14 games with the Tigers. He originally signed with the Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 2005 out of Venezuela. Alvarez turned 24 on May 6th.
