Johnny Cueto was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Kansas City Royals on July 26, 2015 along with cash. The Reds in exchange received Brandon Finnegan, John Lamb and Cody Reed.
RHP Cueto was 7-6, 2.62 ERA, 120 K, 0.93 WHIP, .196 BAA in 130.2 IP over 19 games with the Reds. Over eight MLB seasons with the Reds he was 92-63, 3.21 ERA, 1115 K, 1.17 WHIP, .235 BAA in 1339.0 IP over 213 games. He originally signed with the Reds in 2004 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Cueto turned 29 on February 15.
LHP Finnegan had split 2015 between Double A NW Arkansas, Triple A Omaha and the Royals. He was 0-1, 2.77 ERA, 13 K, 1.69 WHIP, .204 BAA, 1 SV in 13.0 IP over 5 games at NW Arkansas with 3 GS, 0-2, 7.07 ERA, 19 K, 1.71 WHIP, .293 BAA in 14.0 IP over 6 games at Omaha with 4 GS and 3-0, 2.96 ERA, 21 K, 1.19 WHIP, .193 BAA in 24.1 IP over 14 games with the Royals. Over two MLB seasons with the Royals he was 3-1, 2.59 ERA, 31 K, 1.15 WHIP, .200 BAA in 31.1 IP over 21 games. He was originally drafted by the Royals with the 17th pick of the first round in 2014. Finnegan turned 22 on April 14.
LHP Lamb pitched at Triple A Omaha where he was 9-1, 2.67 ERA, 96 K, 1.16 WHIP, .233 BAA in 94.1 IP over 17 games. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the fifth round in 2008. Lamb turned 25 on July 10.
LHP Reed had split 2015 between Class A Advanced Wilmington and NW Arkansas. He was 5-5, 2.14 ERA, 65 K, 1.19 WHIP, .243 BAA, 1 SV in 67.1 IP over 13 games at Wilmington with 10 GS and 2-2, 3.45 ERA, 19 K, 1.19 WHIP, .239 BAA in 28.2 IP over 5 games at NW Arkansas. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the second round in 2013. Reed turned 22 on April 15.
