Here is my week two installment of College Spotlight for 2012. This week I am looking at Johnny Coy of Wichita State and Bobby Wahl of Ole Miss.
Junior First baseman Johnny Coy had a monster weekend at the plate feasting on North Dakota pitching. He had two career RBI days with seven in the Friday game and topping that with nine in the Sunday game. In the four game series he was 13 for 20 with two home runs, three doubles, 20 RBI and seven runs. For the season he is hitting .486/.500/.743 with two home runs, 20 RBI, eight runs and zero steals in eight games. In 2011 as a sophomore he hit .274/.344/.421 with seven home runs, 59 RBI, 42 runs and one steal in 64 games.
Sophomore RHP Bobby Wahl had a good outing against UNC Wilmington going seven strong innings while striking out nine and giving up only one hit and two walks against the 25 batters he faced. For the season he is now 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA, 11 strikeouts and 0.83 WHIP in 12 innings over two games. In 2011 getting his feet wet as a freshman he was 0-2 with a 4.80 ERA, 26 strikeouts, 1.47 WHIP and 4 saves in 30 innings over 18 games.
