2011 Where are they now 2008 MLB draft picks 47 to 50

Earlier I looked at how the first round players from the 2008 draft did during the 2011 season. Yet teams aren't only stocked with former first round picks. Now I'm going to check how players from the second round in 2008 did looking at picks 47 to 50. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The Tampa Bay Rays drafted LHP Kyle Lobstein 47th out of Coconino High School in Arizona. He split 2011 between Class A Advanced and Double A. He was 9-9 with a 3.71 ERA, 85 strikeouts and 1.24 WHIP in 121.1 innings over 22 games at Class A Advanced and was 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA, 11 strikeouts and 1.82 WHIP in 11 innings over two games at Double A.

The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted RHP Tanner Scheppers 48th out of Fresno State. He did not sign, pitched for the St Paul Saints in the Independent League and was then drafted by the Texas Rangers with the 44th pick of the first round in 2009. He split 2011 between Double A and Triple A. He was 2-1 with a 3.13 ERA, 24 strikeouts and 1.17 WHIP in 23 innings over 17 games at Double A and was 2-0 with a 4.35 ERA, 20 strikeouts, 1.69 WHIP and 2 saves in 20.2 innings over 11 games at Triple A.

The Kansas City Royals drafted second baseman Johnny Giavotella 49th out of the University of New Orleans. He split 2011 between Triple A and the Royals. He hit .338/.390/.481 with nine home runs, 72 RBI, 67 runs and 9 steals in 110 games at Triple A and hit .247/.273/.376 with two home runs, 21 RBI, 20 runs and 5 steals in 46 games with the Royals.

The Baltimore Orioles drafted outfielder Xavier Avery 50th out of Cedar Grove High School in Georgia. He played 2011 at Double A and hit .259/.324/.343 with four home runs, 26 RBI, 72 runs and 36 steals in 138 games.
