It is the off season and I'm checking how picks 31 to 40 of the 2008 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.
The Minnesota Twins drafted RHP Steven "Shooter" Hunt 31st out of Tulane. He pitched 2011 at Class A Advanced and was 2-0 with 7.38 ERA, 46 strikeouts and 2.37 WHIP in 42.2 innings over 28 games.
The Milwaukee Brewers drafted RHP Jacob Odorizzi 32nd out of Highland High School in Illinois. He was traded to the Royals in December 2010. He split 2011 between Class A Advanced and Double A. He was 5-4 with a 2.87 ERA, 103 strikeouts and 1.15 WHIP in 78.1 innings over 15 games at Class A Advanced and was 5-3 with a 4.72 ERA, 54 strikeouts and 1.28 WHIP in 68.2 innings over 12 games at Double A.
The New York Mets drafted RHP Bradley Holt 33rd out of UNC Wilmington. He pitched 2011 at Double A and was 8-8 with a 4.71 ERA, 74 strikeouts and 1.41 WHIP in 93.2 innings over 34 games.
The Philadelphia Phillies drafted outfielder Zachary Collier 34th out of Chino Hills High School in California. In 2011 he played at Class A and hit .255/.328/.349 with one home run, 36 RBI, 50 runs and 35 steals in 112 games.
The Milwaukee Brewers drafted LHP Evan Frederickson 35th out of University of San Francisco. He was released by the Brewers before the 2011 season.
The Kansas City Royals drafted LHP Michael Montgomery 36th out of Hart High School in California. He pitched 2011 at Triple A and was 5-11 with a 5.32 ERA, 129 strikeouts and 1.50 WHIP in 150.2 innings over 28 games.
The San Francisco Giants drafted third baseman Conor Gillaspie 37th out of Wichita State. He split 2011 between Triple A and the Giants. He hit .297/.389/.453 with 11 home runs, 61 RBI, 63 runs and 9 steals in 124 games at Triple A and hit .263/.333/.421 with one home run, two RBI, two runs and zero steals in 15 games with the Giants.
The Houston Astros drafted RHP Jordan Lyles 38th out of Hartsville High School in South Carolina. He split 2011 between Triple A and the Astros. He was 3-3 with a 3.61 ERA, 42 strikeouts and 1.30 WHIP in 62.1 innings over 12 games at Triple A and was 2-8 with a 5.36 ERA, 67 strikeouts and 1.41 WHIP in 94 innings over 20 games with the Astros.
The St Louis Cardinals drafted RHP Michael Lance Lynn 39th out of Ole Miss. He split 2011 between Triple A and the Cardinals. He was 7-3 with a 3.84 ERA, 64 strikeouts and 1.39 WHIP in 75 innings over 12 games at Triple A and was 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA, 40 strikeouts, 1.04 WHIP and one save in 34.2 innings over 18 games with the Cardinals.
The Atlanta Braves drafted LHP Brett DeVall 40th out of Niceville High School in Florida. He was released by the Braves in April 2011 after numerous elbow injuries.
