Earlier I looked at how the first round players from the 2008 draft did during the 2011 season. Yet teams aren't only stocked with former first round picks. Now I'm going to check how players from the second round in 2008 did looking at picks 47 to 50. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.
The Philadelphia Phillies drafted outfielder Anthony Gose 51st out of Bellflower High School in California. He was traded to the Blue Jays in 2010. He played 2011 at Double A and hit .253/.349/.415 with 16 home runs, 59 RBI, 87 runs and 70 steals in 137 games.
The Florida Marlins drafted LHP Brad Hand 52nd out of Chaska High School in Minnesota. He split 2011 between Class A Advanced, Double A and the Marlins. He was 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA, four strikeouts and 2.00 WHIP in 5 innings in one game at Class A Advanced, was 11-4 with a 3.40 ERA, 71 strikeouts and 1.29 WHIP in 108.2 innings over 19 games at Double A and was 1-8 with a 4.20 ERA, 38 strikeouts and 1.47 WHIP in 60 innings over 12 games with the Marlins.
The Milwaukee Brewers drafted RHP Seth Lintz 53rd out of Marshall County High School in Tennessee. He split 2011 between Rookie ball and Class A. He was 0-1 with a 6.39 ERA, 12 strikeouts and 2.21 WHIP in 12.2 innings over six games at Rookie ball and was 1-0 with a 2.53 ERA, 12 strikeouts and 1.12 WHIP in 10.2 innings over eight games at Class A.
The Milwaukee Brewers drafted outfielder Cutter Dykstra 54th out of Westlake High School in California. He played 2011 at Class A Advanced and hit .212/.265/.265 with one home run, 27 RBI, 26 runs and 12 steals in 94 games.
The Washington Nationals drafted outfielder Destin Hood 55th out of St Paul's Episcopal High School in Alabama. He played 2011 at Class A Advanced and hit .276/.364/.445 with 13 home runs, 83 RBI, 61 runs and 21 steals in 128 games.
