2011 Where are they now 2009 MLB draft picks 71 to 75

Earlier I looked at how the first round players from the 2009 draft did during the 2011 season. Yet teams aren't only stocked with former first round picks. Now I'm going to check how players from the second round in 2009 did looking at picks 71 to 75. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The Chicago White Sox drafted LHP David Holmberg 71st out of Port Charlotte High School in Florida. He split 2011 between Class A and Class A Advanced. He was 8-3 with a 2.39 ERA, 81 strikeouts and 0.94 WHIP in 83 innings over 14 games at Class A and was 4-6 with a 4.67 ERA, 76 strikeouts and 1.51 WHIP in 71.1 innings over 13 games at Class A Advanced.

The New York Mets drafted LHP Steven Matz 72nd out of Ward Melville High School in New York. He missed 2011 due to an elbow injury.

The Milwaukee Brewers drafted outfielder Maxwell Walla 73rd out of Albuquerque Academy in New Mexico. He played 2011 at Rookie ball and hit .285/.374/.411 with four home runs, 29 RBI, 40 runs and 5 steals in 69 games.

The Milwaukee Brewers drafted catcher Cameron Garfield 74th out of Murrieta Valley High School in California. He split 2011 between Rookie ball and Class A before a knee injury ended his season. He hit .361/.395/.667 with two home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs and zero steals in nine games at Rookie and hit .118/.211/.176 with zero home runs, two RBI, three runs and zero steals in six games at Class A.

The Philadelphia Phillies drafted outfielder Kelly Dugan 75th out of Notre Dame High School in California. He played 2011 at Class A short season and hit .284/.343/.386 with two home runs, 21 RBI, 25 runs and 6 steals in 47 games.
