2011 Where are they now 2009 MLB draft picks 50 to 55

Earlier I looked at how the first round players from the 2009 draft did during the 2011 season. Yet teams aren't only stocked with former first round picks. Now I'm going to check how players from the second round in 2009 did looking at picks 50 to 55. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The Washington Nationals drafted second baseman Jeffery Kobernus 50th out of UC Berkeley. He played 2011 at Class A Advanced and hit .282/.313/.387 with seven home runs, 52 RBI, 67 runs and 53 steals in 124 games.

The Seattle Mariners drafted first baseman Richard Poythress 51st out of Georgia. He played 2011 at Double A and hit .267/.347/.416 with 11 home runs, 64 RBI, 50 runs and 2 steals in 122 games.

The San Diego Padres drafted outfielder Everett Williams 52nd out of McCallum High School in Texas. He played six games at Class A in 2011 before his season ended with a knee injury after a collision with another player. In those six games he hit .300/.391/.300 with zero home runs, one RBI, five runs and 3 steals.

The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted RHP Brooks Pounders 53rd out of Temecula Valley High School in California. He pitched 2011 at Class A and was 5-5 with a 3.68 ERA, 72 strikeouts, 1.14 WHIP and 3 saves  in 66 innings over 36 games.

The St Louis Cardinals drafted shortstop Mychal Givens 54th out of H B Plant High School in Florida. He split 2011 between Class A short season and Class A. He hit .279/.361/.337 with one home run, 30 RBI, 30 runs and 14 steals in 74 games at Class A short season and hit .195/.260/.229 with zero home runs, 15 RBI, 21 runs and 6 steals in 57 games at Class A.

The San Francisco Giants drafted catcher Thomas Joseph 55th out of Horizon High School in Arizona. He played 2011 at Class A Advanced and hit .270/.317/.471 with 22 home runs, 95 RBI, 80 runs and one steal in 127 games.
