Adrian C (Cap) Anson was inducted into the fourth MLB Hall of Fame class in 1939 along with Edward Collins, Charles Comiskey, Candy Cummings, Buck Ewing, Lou Gehrig, Wee Willie Keeler, Old Hoss Radbourn, George Sisler and Albert Spalding. Anson was a 1B\3B\C with 27 seasons MLB experience playing with the Rockford Forest Citys (1871), Philadelphia Athletics (1872-1875), Chicago White Stockings (1876-1889) and Chicago Colts (1890-1897). For his MLB career he hit .334/.394/.447 with 97 HR, 2075 RBI, 1999 R, 277 SB in 2524 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1886 when he hit .371/.433/.544 with 10 HR, 147 RBI, 117 R, 29 SB in 125 games, 1889 when he hit .342/.440/.471 with 7 HR, 117 RBI, 100 R, 27 SB in 134 games and 1884 when he hit .335/.373/.543 with 21 HR, 102 RBI, 108 R, (no record SB) in 112 games.
He led the National League in hitting four times: 1879 (.317), 1881 (.399), 1887 (.347) and 1888 (.344). He led the National Association in doubles in 1871 (11). He led the NL in doubles in 1877 (19) and 1885 (35). He led the NL in RBI in 1880 (74), 1881 (82), 1882 (83), 1884 (102), 1885 (108), 1886 (147), 1888 (84) and 1891 (120).
His 3081 career hits ranks 20th all time. He also had some managerial experience with the Philadelphia Athletics (1875), Chicago White Sockings\Colts (1879-1897) and New York Giants (1898). He had also been a minority owner of the Chicago franchise.
