Two Major One Minor 062513

Here is the 13th Two Major One Minor segment of 2013. This is my third year of doing this series where I feature two Major League players and one minor league player each week. This week I am featuring Gerardo Parra, Jason Castro and Hernan Perez.

Parra is an outfielder with the Arizona Diamondbacks who has taken his game to another level this season. He had put up good numbers his previous four years with Arizona but he is on target this season to have career bests in many categories. He has provided the spark the Diamondbacks thought Adam Eaton would provide only to lose him in spring training to injury. This season Parra has hit .315/.378/.480 with 7 HR, 26 RBI, 47 R, 6 SB in 74 games. He has a career best 24 doubles which he will continue to add to. He is only one away from tying his career best in home runs. Parra is just entering his prime as he turned 26 on May 9th.

Castro is the starting catcher in what may be the best hitting catching tandem in MLB. In his third season with the Astros Castro is starting to live up to the expectations of being a first round pick in 2008. This season he is hitting .275/.332/.486 with 10 HR, 25 RBI, 31 R, 2 SB in 66 games. Even before the All Star break he already has career bests in doubles (22), home runs, runs, hits (68) and steals. Castro also just turned 26 on June 18.

Perez is a shortstop with Double A Erie of the Detroit Tigers. He is on pace for his best season in the minors. This season he is hitting .298/.324/.424 w/ 4 HR, 29 RBI, 35 R, 19 SB in 72 games. He already has a career minor league best 24 doubles and is batting 30 points higher than he ever had before. The Tigers gave him a glimpse of the big leagues by bringing up for two games in 2012 out of Class A Advanced. That shows he is very much part of their future plans. Perez turned 22 on March 26.
