Two Major One Minor 061113

Here is the 11th Two Major One Minor segment of 2013. This is my third year of doing this series where I feature two Major League players and one minor league player each week. This week I am featuring Marco Scutaro, Josh Donaldson and Adam Duvall.

Scutaro has been sipping on water bottled at the fountain of youth since arriving at the San Francisco Giants last season. He has been performing at levels above his career numbers although he is now in his late 30's. After being traded from the Rockies he hit .362/.385/.473 with 3 HR, 44 RBI, 40 R, 2 SB in 61 games helping the Giants win the World Series. This season he has continued to play at an elevated level hitting .332/.386/.445 with 2 HR, 15 RBI, 33 R, 0 SB in 57 games. That is the best stretch of his 12 MLB seasons over a career he has hit .278/.342/.394 while playing SS/2B/3B for the Giants, Rockies, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Athletics and Mets. He originally signed with the Indians as an amateur free agent in 1994 out of Venezuela. Scutaro will be 38 on October 30.

Donaldson is midst of a break out season with the Oakland Athletics as he has reached his prime. The third baseman is hitting .324/.393/.521 with 9 HR, 42 RBI, 33 R, 2 SB in 64 games. With another two weeks under his belt and he will have reached his longest stint in the Majors in his three MLB seasons. Whether he can maintain remains to be seen since he is hitting about fifty points higher than his norm in the minors. But he did show in the minors he was capable of getting into the teens with home runs and steals. He was originally drafted by the Cubs with the 48th pick of the first round in 2007. Donaldson will be 28 on December 8th.

Duvall is a third baseman playing at Double A Richmond of the San Francisco Giants. This season he is hitting .315/.382/.622 with 6 HR, 22 RBI, 22 R, 0 SB in 30 games. He missed several games with a thumb injury. Last season he put up some elite numbers with Class A Advanced Sa Jose in the hitter friendly California League. With San Jose he hit .258/.327/.487 with 30 HR, 100 RBI, 101 R, 8  SB in 134 games. He gave some glimpses to that in 2010 while in college at Louisville when he hit .327/.403/.574 with 12 HR, 47 RBI, 68 R, 10 SB in 63 games. The Giants saw enough to draft him in the 11th round that 2010 draft. He'll be one to keep an eye on. Duvall will be 25 on September 4th.
