College Spotlight 042715

Here is my ninth installment of College Spotlight for 2015. This week I am looking at Anthony Sequeira of Oral Roberts and Brendan McKay of Louisville.


Sequeira is a senior 1B\RHP from Petaluma High School, in Petaluma, CA plus he played at Santa Rosa Junior College. On Sunday he performed in the field and at the plate in a 8-7 victory over South Dakota State in 10 innings. Batting fourth as the DH he was 3 for 5 with a double, 2 RBI and a run plus he pitched the last four innings in long relief to earn the save. His pitching line was 4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K in 52 pitches. This season at the plate he has hit .344/.442/.554 with 7 HR, 42 RBI, 41 R, 2 SB in 41 games. On the mound he is 1-0, 1.17 ERA, 30 K, 0.74 WHIP, .163 BAA, 6 SV in 23.0 IP over 17 games. Last season he hit .253/.322/.305 with 0 HR, 22 RBI, 24 R, 2 SB in 56 games but did not pitch. The Golden Eagles are 29-13 this season.

McKay is a freshman 1B\LHP from Blackhawk High School in Darlington, PA. Last weekend in a three game sweep over Bethune-Cookman he was 5 for 10 with two doubles, four runs and two walks. He also picked up the win pitching Saturday as his line was 6.0 IP, 5 R, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 11 K in 111 pitches. This season he is hitting .326/.455/.424 with 1 HR, 22 RBI, 25 R, 4 SB in 40 games. On the mound he has been 7-1, 1.83 ERA, 78 K, 0.83 WHIP, .145 BAA, 4 SV in 59.0 IP over 14 games with seven starts. He had been selected by the St Louis Cardinals in the 34th round on the 2014 MLB draft after being twice selected the Pennsylvania Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year. His influence has helped push the Louisville Cardinals to a 34-10 record and on track for the road to Omaha as the team hovers around the top ten.
