Here is my eighth installment of College Spotlight for 2015. This week I am looking at Alex Bregman of LSU and Grayson Long of Texas A&M.
Bregman is a junior shortstop out of Albuquerque Academy in Albuquerque, NM. He has shown a power/speed combo in addition to hitting for average as he has hit .329/.419/.601 with 8 HR, 34 RBI, 39 R, 23 SB in 40 games. Last season he hit .316/.397/.455 with 6 HR, 47 RBI, 35 R, 12 SB in 63 games. This season the Tigers are 34-6 and appear to be on the road to Omaha.
RHP Long is a junior out of Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, TX. This season he is the ace of the staff of a team that stays near the top of the polls each week. This season he is 8-0, 2.73 ERA, 66 K, 1.20 WHIP, .206 BAA in 56.0 IP over 10 games. Last season he was 6-2, 3.12 ERA, 55 K, 1.41 WHIP, .284 BAA in 89.1 IP over 15 games. This season the Aggies are 35-5 and are also one of the favorites to be headed to the College World Series.
