Chasing 50-50 041615

This is the fourth year of my Chasing 50-50 segment. It started three seasons ago as we followed Matt Kemp then of the Dodgers in his self proclaimed attempt to hit 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases. The 2015 season is under way and we are going to follow Kemp's efforts to see if he can make another run. As long as he is playing Kemp will always be part of this. Regulars Mike Trout of the Angels and Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies are still in the mix because I think they also have the speed\power combo capable of reaching the mark some day. Plus we will also start with Carlos Gomez of the Brewers, George Springer of the Astros and Joc Pederson of the Dodgers. Others will be added throughout the season as their production warrants. 50/50 is a lofty goal but this is also a way to honor the guys that do possess the power and speed tools.

Matt Kemp

Kemp has started the season hitting .341/.364/.512 with 0 HR, 7 RBI, 6 R, 1 SB in 10 games. His power numbers may be dampened by the trade to San Diego but that we'll see.

Mike Trout

Trout has started the season hitting .438/.500/.594 with 1 HR, 4 RBI, 7 R, 2 SB in 9 games. The defending MVP will have the power numbers but the issue will be if he decides to put the effort in on the base paths this season. Off to a good start.

Carlos Gonzalez

Gonzalez has started the season hitting .231/.244/.410 with 1 HR, 5 RBI, 4 R, 0 SB in 9 games. The issue with Gonzalez will be keeping his time on the DL to a minimum as the high altitude is hard on the body.

Carlos Gomez

Gomez has started the season hitting .235/.247/.441 with 1 HR, 6 RBI, 3 R, 0 SB in 8 games. He was a member of the 20\20 club last year and is capable of taking it to the next level.

George Springer

Springer has started the season hitting .147/.256/.176 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 2 SB in 9 games. He's struggling to start his sophomore campaign but two seasons ago in the minors was a 30/30 guy and challenged 40/40

Joc Pederson

Pederson has started the season hitting .310/.444/.517 with 1 HR, 4 RBI, 6 R, 1 SB in 9 games. The rookie put up 30/30 numbers last season in the minors.
