Here is my seventh installment of College Spotlight for 2015. This week I am looking at Andrew Benintendi of Arkansas and Kyle Twomey of Southern Cal.
Benintendi is a sophomore outfielder out of Madeira High School in Cincinnati, OH. Last Friday in a 5-3 win over Kentucky he had his second consecutive two home run game and his sixth in a span of six games. He generates his power stroke from a 5-10, 180 pound frame. This season he is hitting .358/.464/.767 with 13 HR, 38 RBI, 32 R, 12 SB in 34 games. In his freshman campaign last year he hit .276/.368/.333 with 1 HR, 27 RBI, 45 R, 17 SB in 61 games. The Razorbacks are 20-16 this season.
LHP Twomey is a junior out of El Dorado High School in Placentia, CA. Last Saturday he gave seven strong innings for sixth ranked USC in a 5-0 victory over number 7 UCLA. His line for the game was 7.0 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 7 K in 112 pitches. This season he is 6-1, 1.79 ERA, 45 K, 1.27 WHIP, .245 BAA in 55.1 IP over 9 games. Last season while primarily in the bullpen he was 2-2, 3.11 ERA, 50 K, 1.27 WHIP, .258 BAA in 55.0 IP over 19 games. This season the Trojans are 26-9.
