The previous three seasons I had done the Bubba and Fred Update which centered on two players in the Kansas City Royals organization who grew up in the general area where the Royals play. Bubba Starling was the Royals first round pick in 2011 and is from Gardner, KS. Fred Ford was drafted by the Royals in the seventh round in 2012 and while he grew up in the Cardinals' backyard in St Peters, MO the Royals were not far away down I-70. But Ford was released by the Royals after the 2014 season. His replacement is Logan Moon who hails from Blue Springs, Mo which is just down the road from Kauffman Stadium. Moon was drafted by the Royals in the sixth round in 2014. Both Starling and Moon start out 2015 as teammates in the outfield at Class A Advanced Wilmington.
Starling is still young as he will be 23 on August 3rd. He is off to a good start hitting 10 for 32, .313/.389/.500 with 3 2B, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 3 R, 1 SB in 8 games.
Moon played in college at Missouri Southern and is a bit older having turned 23 on February 15. He is off to a slow start hitting 3 for 15, .200/.250/.267 with 1 2B, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB in 4 games.
Each week I will provide an update on these two as they hopefully continue to rise through the Royals organization.
