Here is my sixth installment of College Spotlight for 2015. This week I am looking at Chris Shaw of Boston College and Kolton Mahoney of BYU.
Shaw is a junior OF\1B out of Lexington High School in Lexington, MA. He just came off a monster weekend against Wake Forest in which he was 8 for 12 with 2 doubles, 3 HR, 7 RBI and 3 runs over a three game series. This season he is hitting .318/.422/.692 with 11 HR, 41 RBI, 21 R, 0 SB in 29 games. Last season he was the only player on the team to hit above .300 as he hit .329/.393/.502 with 6 HR, 45 RBI, 25 R, 1 SB in 55 games. The Eagles are 13-16 this season.
RHP Mahoney is a junior out of Northridge High School in West Point, UT. Last Thursday he had a 15 strikeout performance in a 3-2 victory over Portland. His line for the game was 8.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 15 K in 141 pitches. This season he is 3-3, 3.80 ERA, 55 K, 1.46 WHIP, .258 BAA in 47.1 IP over 9 games. Last season he was 6-6, 3.97 ERA, 69 K, 1.18 WHIP, .227 BAA, 1 SV in 88.1 IP over 16 games. He also threw the seventh no-hitter in school history. This season the Cougars are 14-17.
