Joaquin Benoit traded to Pirates

Joaquin Benoit was traded by the Philadelphia Phillies to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 31, 2017. The Phillies in exchange received Seth McGarry.

RHP Benoit was 1-4, 4.07 ERA, 43 K, 1.14 WHIP, .206 BAA, 2 SV in 42.0 IP over 44 games with the Phillies in 2017. Over 16 MLB seasons with the Phillies, Blue Jays, Mariners, Padres, Tigers, Rays and Rangers he was 58-47, 3.80 ERA, 1055 K, 1.23 WHIP, .222 BAA, 53 SV in 1060.1 IP over 756 games with 55 GS. He originally signed with the Rangers in 1996 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Benoit turned 40 on July 26.

RHP McGarry was 1-0, 1.34 ERA, 38 K, 0.84 WHIP, .146 BAA, 14 SV in 40.1 IP over 31 games at Class A Advanced Bradenton in 2017. He was originally drafted by the Pirates in the eighth round in 2015. McGarry turned 23 on January 5th.
