Christian Bethancourt traded to Padres

Christian Bethancourt was traded by the Atlanta Braves to the San Diego Padres on December 10, 2015. The Braves in exchange received Casey Kelly and Ricardo Rodriguez. 

Bethancourt is a catcher who split 2015 between Triple A Gwinnett and the Braves. He hit .327/.359/.480 with 4 HR, 31 RBI, 25 R, 5 SB in 52 games at Gwinnett and .200/.225/.290 with 2 HR, 12 RBI, 16 R, 1 SB in 48 games with the Braves. Over three MLB seasons with the Braves he hit .219/.245/.283 with 2 HR, 21 RBI, 23 R, 2 SB in 80 games. His MLB caught stealing rate is 33%. He originally signed with the Braves in 2008 as an amateur free agent out of Panama. Bethancourt will be 25 on September 2nd.

RHP Kelly split 2015 between Double A San Antonio, Triple A El Paso and the Padres. He was 1-8, 4.94 ERA, 60 K, 1.56 WHIP, .281, 1 SV in 82.0 IP over 27 games with 14 GS, at SAn Antonio 1-2, 6.32 ERA, 14 K, 1.60 WHIP, .317 BAA in 15.2 IP over 4 games with 3 GS at El Paso and 0-2, 7.94 ERA, 7 K, 1.94 WHIP, .365 BAA in 11.1 IP over 3 games with 2 GS with the Padres. Over two MLB seasons with the Padres he was 2-5, 6.69 ERA, 33 K, 1.76 WHIP,.330 BAA in 40.1 IP over 9 games with 8 GS. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox with the 30th pick of the first round in 2008. Kelly will be 27 on October 4th.
