Quintin Berry traded to Red Sox

Quintin Berry was traded by the Kansas City Royals to the Boston Red Sox on August 27, 2013. In exchange the Royals received Clayton Mortensen.

Berry is an outfielder who had split 2013 between Triple A Toledo of the Detroit Tigers and Triple A Omaha of the Kansas City Royals. He hit .168/.278 with 1 HR, 15 RBI, 16 R, 15 SB in 49 games at Toledo and hit .222/.343/.292 with 2 HR, 16 RBI, 18 R, 13 SB in 48 games at Omaha. He spent some time with the Tigers in 2012 and hit .258/.330/.354 with 2 HR, 29 RBI, 44 R, 21 SB in 94 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the fifth round in 2006. Berry will be 29 on November 21.

RHP Mortensen has five seasons MLB experience pitching with the Red Sox, Rockies, Athletics and Cardinals. He split 2013 between Triple A Pawtucket and the Red Sox prior to the trade. He was 3-0, 2.47 ERA, 39 K, 1.24 WHIP in 43.2 IP over 14 games at Pawtucket and was 1-2, 5.34 ERA, 21 K, 1.58 WHIP in 30.1 IP over 24 games with the Red Sox. For his MLB career he is 6-11, 4.68 ERA, 112 K, 1.44 WHIP in 167.1 IP over 74 games. He was originally drafted by the Cardinals with the 36th pick of the first round in 2007. Mortensen turned 28 on April 10.
