Ian Kennedy was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the San Diego Padres on July 31, 2013. In exchange the Diamondbacks received Joe Thatcher, Matt Stites and a 2014 draft pick.
RHP Kennedy has seven seasons MLB experience pitching with the Diamondbacks and Yankees. This season he is 3-8, 5.23 ERA, 108 K, 1.42 WHIP in 124.0 IP over 21 games. For his MLB career he is 49-38, 3.99 ERA, 704 K, 1.26 WHIP in 808.0 IP over 133 games. He was originally drafted by the Yankees with the 21st pick of the first round in 2006. Kennedy will be 29 on December 19.
LHP Thatcher has seven seasons MLB experience pitching with the Padres. This season he is 3-1, 2.10 ERA, 29 K, 1.07 WHIP in 30.0 IP over 50 games. For his MLB career he is 8-11, 3.17 ERA, 210 K, 1.26 WHIP, 1 SV in 198.1 IP over 287 games. In 2005 he had his contract purchased by the Brewers when he pitched for River City in the Independent Frontier League. The Brewers traded him to the Padres in 2007. Thatcher will be 32 on October 4th.
RHP Stites has pitched in 2013 at Double A San Antonio of the Padres. He was 2-2, 2.08 ERA, 51 K, 0.87 WHIP, 14 SV in 52.0 IP over 46 games. He was originally drafted by the Padres in the 17th round in 2011. Stites turned 23 on May 28.
