Justin Maxwell traded to Royals

Justin Maxwell was traded by the Houston Astros to the Kansas City Royals on July 31, 2013. In exchange the Astros received Kyle Smith.

Maxwell is an outfielder with five seasons MLB experience playing with the Astros and Nationals. This season he hit .241/.311/.387 with 2 HR, 8 RBI, 21 R, 4 SB in 40 games. He also missed time with a concussion and on rehab assignment he hit .048/.087/.048 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB in 6 games at Double A Corpus Christi and hit .179/.250/.286 with 1 HR, 3 RBI, 5 R, 0 SB in 8 game at Triple A Oklahoma City. For his MLB career he has hit .224/.313/.419 with 29 HR, 88 RBI, 102 R, 24 SB in 288 games. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the fourth round in 2005. Maxwell will be 3 on November 6th.

RHP Smith has pitched 2013 at Class A Advanced Wilmington of the Royals. He was 5-4, 2.85 ERA, 96 K, 1.17 WHIP in 104.1 IP over 19 games. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the fourth round in 2011. Smith will be 21 on September 10.
