Day game at Werner Park 050712

I enjoyed the day with friends catching the Omaha Storm Chasers play a day game at Werner Park. Besides catching up with friends it was great to witness the Storm Chasers extend their winning streak to 14 games with a 8-4 victory over Oklahoma City. A big third inning high lighted by a grand slam by David Lough was enough to keep them out in front.

It is truly a game for all ages as I counted 16 school buses and 11 senior center shuttles dropping fans off near the stadium. Schools as far away as Valentine were using their field trips to take in the game. The weather cooperated being sunny but windy after three straight nights with storms. The promotion of the day was half price Omaha Steaks burgers. The traditional hot dog at the ball park would wait until another day.

One of our group had scored tickets to the George Brett suite at the stadium so I knew it would be a good day. Brett had been one of my idols growing up and is the legendary face of the franchise. Next door was the Johnny Rosenblatt suite which paid homage to the previous stadium the Triple A team called home for years.

It was good to see the team hitting well from top to bottom and even many of the outs were well hit balls right at people. There seemed to be a jet stream that just carried line drives to the center fielder mid game. Everett Teaford pitched well to pick up his first win of the season with Omaha after starting the season in Kansas City. If Teaford continues his transformation from bullpen to starter with positive outings like this the Royals will gladly welcome him back to help their struggling rotation.

All in all it was a good day at the ball park.
